The Department of Zoology, Government Degree College, Kamalpur, was established in the year 2020. Since then, the Department has successfully conducted Undergraduate courses in Bioscience (Botany, Human Physiology, Zoology) without Honours. The department initially started with one common classroom, having no distinct laboratory.

The Department at its inception was run by the Guest Faculties, with limited resources. The Department unfortunately could not provide practical classes as it was not equipped with Laboratory but was taught theoretically through video clips and other sources. 

Despite limited resources in the Department since its inception, its aim to enriched the students continued, Assistant Professor for the first time joined on November 2022. Since then necessary quality teaching along with essential educational and infrastructural facilities to students as well as to the faculty members of the department towards the goal of proper guidance and carrier development of students.

Our vision is to excellence the students in Academic. Apart from regular classes, they are prepared for field study. The Department helps the students to gain insight to the applications of the subject through educational excursion, with exploratory survey and collection of various fauna of the state purely for scientific purpose. This is way we make understand the importance of the state fauna.

  2. Four-year degree course under NEP-2020 with Major, Minor, Interdisciplinary, and Vocational courses.

  4. Credit-based six-semester Degree program; Started from 2020-2022.

  5. Credit-based eight-semester Degree Programme under NEP-2020 from 2023.

Eligibility Criteria for admission:

  1. The candidate should passed H.S in Science with at least 50% for admission in B.Sc Zoology (Major).

  2. Students seeking admission in BSc Zoology will be purely on merit basis.

  3. Reservation policy of Government of Tripura will be followed.

  4. Students with BioScience will be given preference for Minor and Interdisciplinary

  1. Successfully conduct Project work as per the part of the course curriculum in their 6th Semester

  2. Participation of students in the State Science Fair; Students project; World Environmental Day Celebration; PBR Updatation; Seminar on Project

  3. Arrangement of Special lectures for the students.

 

Departmental Out-reach activities (If any):

  1. Students where involve in awareness for venomous snake.

  2. Peoples Biodiversity Register (PBR) Upgradation in 10 Gram Panchayat in collaboration with the State Bio-diversity Board.

  3. 3rd and 5th Semester Practical Exam. was conducted in DDM College, Khowai, hence the students got very good guidance from the faculties of DDM College.

1. Shortage of teaching faculty

2. Insufficient class rooms and benches. 

3. Laboratory not well equiped.

4. Books are not available in Library.
