About Department
The Department of English is one of the oldest departments of the College, established in the year 1987 with an objective to enhance the language proficiency and equipped them to the growing challenges of the times as well as better job avenues. At present, the department offers bachelor degrees in Major, Minor and interdisciplinary courses as per the NEP 2020 guidelines, besides continuing with the semester system. The Department also offers programmes such as Elective courses, Foundation Courses, English Communication at different level of the undergraduate courses.
The department provides intensive mentoring and guidance to their students both within and beyond the classroom through various activities like exhibition, special lectures, movie screenings, presentation, group discussion, workshops, seminar etc. The Department also motivates and instructs the students through the mode of Blended Learning by utilizing various LMS, besides traditional classroom teachings.
The Department is also proud to acknowledge that its students have joined the department as teaching faculty after their academic pursuit. The Alumni of the department has been holding various positions in both State and Central services.
PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOME (PSO)
PSO1: Academic Proficiency: This programme will inculcate among the students the skill of reading, writing, speaking in the English language. It will enhance their understanding of the English language, its birth and evolution and also introduce them to various Literatures across domains.
PSO2: Social Proficiency: It will inculcate among the students ethical values, sense of responsibility and enhance their capacity of living a life of peace and harmony with fellow human beings and Nature.
PSO3: Personal And Behavioral competency: This programme boost the confidences of the students and create in them a sense of self respect and positive attitude. It will also develop among the students as sense of patriotism and appreciation towards all animate and inanimate objects.

Teacher/ Professor in School, College and University, Author, Translator, Journalist, Various post under the UPSC/TPSC and many more.
CLASS SCHEDULE: As per Department’s Notification Semester wise.
EXAMINATION: Under the instructions of the Examination Committee, the Department conducts Internal Examination every semester. The Department also conducts regular Class test, Viva, Group discussion, Assignment under the supervision of the teachers in assessing the students.
RESULTS: Good performance made by the students in the University Exam each semester.

VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of English envisions in imparting a holistic education to the students through nurturance of their academic acumen, cultural talents and social work related enthusiasm. It aims and strives in moulding and carving the students into better individuals upholding social responsibilities besides excelling in their area of discipline. It endeavours in paving ways for the growth of independent thinking, rational attitude, and scientific temperament, respect for all religions, castes and creed and above all, love for humanity among the students.

The Department aspires,
- In developing the communication skills of reading, writing and listening.
- To familiarize the students with Received pronunciation i.e., standard mode of pronunciation
- To develop the ability to think independently and express their ideals in simple language.
- To boost up the confidence of the students in speaking the language in spontaneity and ease.

- To develop positive frame of mind.
- To create a successful and ideal citizens.
Courses Offered
UG Program
The Department offers degree in Major, Minor and Interdisciplinary courses to its students. As per New Education Policy 2020 (NEP) guidelines, the Department has started one year Certificate, two years Diploma, three years degree or four years Honours Degree Course in English and also offers English Communication as an Ability Enhancement Course from 2023.

Eligibility Criteria for Entry Level
- Student who has passed Higher Secondary / H.S.(+2 stage/ Senior Secondary examination or equivalent from any recognized board/ council shall be eligible for admission to the 1st semester of Under Graduate (B.A) programme subject to avail the seats. The Student shall be taken into consideration for admission of she/he applied within 5 year of passing.
- The merit list will be prepared on the basis of the sum of marks obtained by the students in the Best Five subjects of H.S (+2) and the subject opted for Major.
- If there is a ties in the sum total mark, preference will be given to the student with higher marks in the subject opted as Major (for breaking the tie)
- If marks of the subject opted as Major is also equal, the date of birth of the candidate will be considered based on seniority.
- Minor and Interdisciplinary Courses will be distributed among the students based on the availability of seats.
- Reservation policy as per rule of Government of Tripura will be followed.

- Workshop conducted on understanding Literature on 1st December 2022.
- Online Lecture conducted by the Department on the Topic “ Abhijnansakuntalam” on 30th August 2023. The Resource Person was Sri Samuel Debbarma, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit, Government Degree College, Kamalpur.
