About Department
The Department of Physics started functioning in 2010 with B.Sc. Pass Course, though students took admission in 2011 for the first time. In 2020-21 academic session, Honours course in Physics was introduced by the department with intake capacity 10.

The Department aspires to provide the best scientific methods in teaching the basic principles of physics, both theoretical and experimental, and puts most of time to keep the level of education. To inspire and prepare the students to meet the needs of the nation. To impart basic concepts of science to evolving Engineers, this enables them to be high quality engineers.

5.Eligibility Criteria for Entry Level
i)For admission in B.Sc Physics Major, the candidate should have passed H.S with Chemistry and Mathematics. ii)A student who has passed Higher Secondary/H.S.(+2 stage)/Senior Secondary examination or equivalent from any recognized board/Council shall be eligible for admission to the 1st Semester of Under Graduate (B.Sc.) programme subject to availability of seats. iii)The merit list will be prepared on the basis of sum of marks of Best Five subjects of H.S.(+2) Exam and the subject opted for Major. a) If there is a tie in the sum, preference will be given on the marks obtained in the subject opted as Major (for breaking the tie). iv) If marks of the subject opted as Major is also equal, then the date of birth of the candidate will be considered. Senior will be given chance. v) The merit list will be published for Major subject only. vi) Minor and interdisciplinary subject will be distributed among the students subject to availability of seat. vii) Reservation policy of Government of Tripura will be followed.
6. Programme Specific Outcomes (PSO):
The curriculum and the syllabus of Physics Major, Minor and Interdisciplinary courses have been designed for deep understanding of the various branches of Physics. Enhance practical and mathematical skills and competencies to conduct scientific experiments. Create analytical thinking and interpret the inferences from verbal, mathematical and graphical data. This undergraduate course in Physics would provide the following opportunities to the students: i)To understand the basic laws and explore the fundamental concepts of physics ii) To understand the concepts and significance of the various physical phenomena. iii) To carry out experiments to understand the laws and concepts of Physics. iv) To apply the theories learnt and the skills acquired to solve real time problems. v) To acquire a wide range of problem solving skills, both analytical and technical and to apply them. vi) To enhance the student’s academic abilities, personal qualities and transferable skills this will give them an opportunity to develop as responsible citizens. vii)To produce graduates who excel in the competencies and values required for leadership to serve a rapidly evolving global community. viii) To motivate the students to pursue PG courses in reputed institutions. ix This course introduces students to the methods of experimental physics. Emphasis will be given on laboratory techniques specially the importance of accuracy of measurements. x) Providing a hands-on learning experience such as in measuring the basic concepts in properties of matter, heat, optics, electricity and electronics.

Seminar/Workshop Organized
i) The Department of Physics of Government Degree College, Kamalpur has organized a National Webinar on “Recent Advances in Material Science-2020” held on 19th September 2020. The webinar organized though Google meet and live streaming in YouTube.(Report) The Department organizes departmental Seminar, Talks, Parent-Teachers Meeting, Study Tour regularly.
